How you can help

HOW TO HELP US

We believe that people living with mental illness can be full members of society. That’s why we also support other organizations that would like to adopt our model.

L’Abri en Ville exists thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses, and foundations. Their donations and grants allow us to fund our office, hire our coordinators, and provide support to the people we serve.

MAKE A DONATION

You could say that L’Abri en Ville focuses on the essentials: housing, food, and kindness. These are very ordinary needs—but they make all the difference. Learn more.

VOLUNTEERING

At L’Abri en Ville, volunteering is about reciprocity—as shown in this exchange between two members of our community:

Patrick: “Before I came here, I slept all the time. After meals, I’d go lie down. Now I go out. I go to the library, out to eat… We know a lot of people, we chat a lot. It gives me a chance to socialize. I enjoy life much more than before.” Learn more

SUPPORT

Colleges and universities also help reduce the stigma around mental illness—especially by inviting our residents to speak about their experiences and the benefits of a supportive, mutual-aid community.

Students really value these exchanges, as shown by comments such as: “Each of you said something that made me reflect and question my perceptions of mental illness”; “I learned more about mental illness in this class than in my three years of university…”
